OR amped wireless.com

The modem port is defective and will not hold any Ethernet connection securely in place which will result in intermittent connection issues.

Initially it functioned as expected. Then we experienced more frequent disconnections which required it to be manually reset. As of today, the unit is getting worse and requires resetting 2 to 3 times a week minimum. One day it needed to be reset 3 times in an 8 hr period... I work from home and this is getting frustrating. It has become very unreliable. Ironically the seller reached out via email to see how it's performing. When I shared my experience they deferred me to Amazon who fulfilled the order, who now says its expired on tech support and return options 2 weeks ago. When I went back to the seller with this info, they have not replied. Wasted $180... Not recommended.

I really wanted this router to be what the product description and accompanying graphics depicted, however I was a tad disappointed. First off let me list all the devices that I had connected to the router: my Xbox One, an iPhone 6, a Samsung Note 5, my LG Smart TV, my laptop, my PC workstation, and my printer. Only two connections were wired in, and those were my Xbox One and my PC. I don't really have that many devices that I connect to the internet aside from the ones mentioned above (and only a couple are ever on and active at the same time) so I figure that overloading the router was definitely not an issue. I also do not have that many wireless networks around me so I don't think that interference played a part in this either.

Moving on, speeds were pretty good over both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands, range was a little lacking on both bands but I'll touch on that later, I averaged about 148 Mbps Down and 18 Mbps Up on the 5Ghz band and 43 Mbps Down and 11 Mbps Up for the 2.4Ghz band which was way better than the new gateway that my ISP (Cox Cable) rolled out a couple months ago. Like I said earlier, range was pretty disappointing. Whereas my gateway had a strong connection (4 full bars) from two to three rooms away, my connection through the Amped Athena Router began dropping (2 bars) once I left the room and entered a room that was adjacent to the living room such as the kitchen. Both the router and the gateway were in the living room but in different areas (the gateway being near the wall connections, and the router on top of the entertainment center). I thought it was a bit strange at first, so I re-positioned the antennae and no dice. I then checked for some firmware updates but I was already on the latest version. Of course, when all else fails I decided power cycle the router and network setup. This did actually lead to a better performance increase (2-3 bars depending on where I stood), but it did not last as long as I'd like. Roughly three days later I was experiencing the same issues. Needless to say, I got pretty tired of having to power cycle the router and I did end up returning it.

Overall, I'd say this router would be better suited for someone in a smaller living space such as a dorm room, condo, or an apartment. I will say this though, I never had any issues with wired-in connections so I guess that's a plus.

The distance the wireless signal would reach is decent (not much better than my cheaper router). The BIGGEST issue is it constantly drops signal. You will need to reset the box frequently. Once reset the signal will last but then it will need to reset again just a few hours later! Returning today!

Think I bought this as part of a lightening deal.So far so good.Easy to set up.The interface was very intuitive, including the security settings, and overall set up was less than 1/2hr.I used the web-based interface.

Much much faster than my previous wireless router.Not really sure of the validity associated with speedtest.net - but download and upload speeds were 2-5 time faster than with my older d-link router.It was noticeable for me in performance - webpage loading and VPN.There are two frequencies - 2.4 and 5.Most devices can connect to either.I also think that this router deals with multiple devices really well.We have a number of devices and I would get dropped from the network constantly.Haven't had that now for some time (can't remember that happening in the absence of complete internet outage - (Comcast)).Finally the signal strength is also significantly better than my old d-link.Reaching corners of the house that I hadn't be able to reach.

Short-term: - Am very satisfied and would recommend this product.
